My name is James. James Del actually. I work at a place called Gawker Media, something I find myself explaining to my parents every time I see them. They'll get it one day. I don't believe in Twitter, but I do believe in Facebook and LinkedIn. There's a Myspace page out there too, but never mind that. Questions, concerns, and comments can be directed to James, At-Sign Gawker, Period Com.

Just rehashing Pareene’s fantastic article from last year’s 9/11. It saddens me to say we’ve moved backward in the last year—what with the anti-Islamic bullshit and the increasing affinity for fear-mongers like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin—but overall I’m optimistic that this can one day simply be a day of remembrance and not a day of Qu’ran burning or U-S-A chanting retards holding anti-gay marriage signs.

The terrorists attacked us 9 years ago because we are a Godless society. Believe in it or not, but the percentage of people who consider themselves “religious” but don’t exert any piety other than maybe going to church every Sunday is staggering. These same people ignore even the most basic Biblical teachings in favor of consumerism, something that many New Yorkers embrace but most Americans wind up shirking (double entendre intended).

Now, 9 years later, our society is actually more in line with what the terrorists wanted. They are winning. Being fundamentally anti-Islamic, anti-gay, anti-welfare, and pro-guns is strikingly similar to being an Islamic fundamentalist, in that others beliefs are not tolerated and there is a willingness to become militant to protect those beliefs (not to be confused with extremists, who actually do become militant; though both sides have plenty of those folks around too). That’s not good. When we were “attacked,” it was a simple gesture: They said they didn’t like our way of life. They may not recognize their small victory, but they’ve succeeded in making us more like them. That sucks, America. Get it together and remember that “One nation under God” doesn’t mean anything if we’re not going to stick by the terrible, sodom-loving, consumer-driven, freedom-loving ideals that made them hate us in the first place.

Oh and God’s not real, lol.
