My name is James. James Del actually. I work at a place called Gawker Media, something I find myself explaining to my parents every time I see them. They'll get it one day. I don't believe in Twitter, but I do believe in Facebook and LinkedIn. There's a Myspace page out there too, but never mind that. Questions, concerns, and comments can be directed to James, At-Sign Gawker, Period Com.

“I’ll always be falling, yeah, only to rise and fall again”

My little sister Beck turns sixteen today. When I turned sixteen, she was 10…this is blowing my mind right now. Even though it was 6 years ago, I remember being a complete emotional mess—the product of intense hormonal imbalance and too many Cusack films—though looking back it was definitely a good time. I won’t go as far as to say it was the best time of my life, because life just seems to be getting better. But it was a good time, and even though I was an emo bitch half the time I still managed to appreciate it. From the Xanga archives, written on my 16th birthday:

So thank you everyone for everything in the last year. Thanks for the good, thanks even more for the bad, and thanks for the nothingness inbetween. In my 15th year i lost a few friends but gained a bunch more…I learned lessons and taught them as well, I was an enemy and a friend, and most importantly I was always there whether i was wanted or not.

These things will not change. In the coming year i will still piss a few people off, but i will forge even better friendships with those i dont. I will be asked out, dumped, and cheated on. I will fail tests, and I will face success. But while i may rarely be wrong, all these predictions are merely that. Just predictions. Anything can happen this year, and chances are anything will. What I am willing to bet on though is that i will face anything and everything with you all…good and bad. Thank you all for an interesting year, and here’s to my shared future with you people I tend to call my friends. Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Sweet Sixteen, Beck. If you haven’t seen that movie yet, get on it.
