This is one of the few punctuational gripes that I happen to side with the English on. Why would I put a period inside a quote if I’m quoting a fragment?! It’s the end of the sentence; there was no period in that original quote! The English couldn’t figure out how to use an apostrophe if their life depended on it, but I happen to think their quotation practices are spot on.
Alas, as my English teacher once said, “Doesn’t matter if you like it or not, the rules are the rules, and if you want to blow them off the only person you’re embarrass is yourself.”
