My name is James. James Del actually. I work at a place called Gawker Media, something I find myself explaining to my parents every time I see them. They'll get it one day. I don't believe in Twitter, but I do believe in Facebook and LinkedIn. There's a Myspace page out there too, but never mind that. Questions, concerns, and comments can be directed to James, At-Sign Gawker, Period Com.

My buddy Erin Nicole started a petition to ask the good folks at Google to add a “Bike there” feature to their mapping program. The feature would help bikers navigate certified bicycle lanes and automatically plan a route, possibly providing the cyclist options for either the most direct route, or the most bicycle-friendly (safest) route.

According to the petition, there are many reasons why this feature would be a wonderful edition to Google Maps. Among them, some of the most influential would be to:

* Make bicycling safer for millions of bicyclists around the world.
* Empower world citizens to better adapt their lifestyles to face the challenges of global climate change.
* Help Google realize its core mission of ‘organizing the world’s information and making it universally accessible and useful.’

This is a great idea! Please sign it

I like: pit bulls and bikes, in that order. I’ve often wanted this kind of thing on Google Maps—if you want to know how to, say, bike to City Island (which is a bike ride I’ve been wanting to do forever), you have to follow some convoluted directions that you find on some random website from like 10 years ago.
