My name is James. James Del actually. I work at a place called Gawker Media, something I find myself explaining to my parents every time I see them. They'll get it one day. I don't believe in Twitter, but I do believe in Facebook and LinkedIn. There's a Myspace page out there too, but never mind that. In 2000, my best friend and I discovered you could make yourself sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks by simply speeding up an audio file. So, in our infinite boredom one evening while our parents were having a party, we wrote down a list of “hits” and sang them into my computer microphone. After a lengthy mixing process (who am I kidding? This was literally recorded in Windows Sound Recorder), we had a 5 minute track of Alvin and the Chipmunks singing the hits.
Or at least we thought they were hits. In reality, they were probably the only songs two 7th graders knew the words to. Some real gems in there, including two Will Smith movie songs, Jefferson Airplane, Beastie Boys, Papa Roach, and more. I don’t think we did it in one take, but it was pretty close.

If you have one already, as most of you do since they started handing them out willy-nilly not too long ago, then I’ll post another musical gem from 2000 once someone gets the list up.
