My name is James. James Del actually. I work at a place called Gawker Media, something I find myself explaining to my parents every time I see them. They'll get it one day. I don't believe in Twitter, but I do believe in Facebook and LinkedIn. There's a Myspace page out there too, but never mind that. Questions, concerns, and comments can be directed to James, At-Sign Gawker, Period Com.
There is massive seperation between church and state (ad sales and editorial) at GMG. They don’t know what we’re doing, we don’t know what they’re doing. Denton happens to be a big BSG fan, but we rarely share campaigns with editors ahead of time. As geeky as it sounds, they’d be covering Battlestar Gallactica regardless of the ad campaign. Sometimes these things just work in the advertiser’s favor. Other times, we get snared when our editors trash our advertisers, the most notable case being this.
But at the end of the day…the editors write what they want, and the sales team sells what they can. Any overlap in either direction is purely coincidental, as is the case with BSG.
And the real reason for Denton’s enthusiasm for Battlestar Galactica becomes very clear. An ad campaign! Surprise!
